KHOU – SPY EXPERIENCE AT THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

    By Adam Bennett

HOUSTON – Nearly everyone’s seen them in the movies – now parents and their kids have the chance to be a secret agent in real life at the Children’s Museum of Houston this summer.

“We really need smart kids, kids that can get through really small places, kids that can solve puzzles,” said Jazmine Blas, a museum employee.

When kids pull back the curtain inside a first-floor gift shop, they’ll step inside the S.E.C.R.E.T. (Special Elite Crime Resolution and Espionage Team) headquarters for the Children’s Museum of Houston’s all-new spy interactive experience.

“I like going on cool missions and playing with the cool gadgets, and I especially love the laser box,” said Madison, one of the kids taking part in the experience.

Museum staff says the exhibit lets kids go on secret missions throughout the museum without regular visitors being aware of what’s going on. It employs radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to let kids “crack codes, uncover clues, and outsmart villains.”

Museum staff say the exhibit is the first of its kind not just in Houston, but of any children’s museum in the world.

“This is like a video game come to life,” said Henry Yau, a museum spokesperson. “They use digital technology, and they go through the whole museum solving different missions.”

The kids will join a team of agents from all over Houston, brought together for different reasons.

“I like helping people that need help,” said Megan.

“Fighting crime and catching bad guys,” said Sophie.

“I like running around the museum willy-nilly!” said Sabrina.

However, they’re all united under one goal: stopping the evil Vex from once again trying to steal the crystals that power the museum.
